Curatorial
My creative work covers a broad range of expertise: curating, design, education, community engagement, writing, publishing, film and photo production. I have over 12 years of experience in arts administration, with a concurrent 7 years working in urban design and public art.
Since 2004, I have worked or volunteered at various New York art institutions and non-profits, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, Artists’ Space, and Thread Waxing Space. From 2013 to 2017, I served as co-curator (with Jacob Palmer) at StoreFrontLab, an experimental exhibition space founded in 2011 by architect David Baker and Yosh Asato. In 2017, I co-founded (with Kioni Cho) Parlor, an experimental hybrid retail concept integrating the work of local artists and designers into an interior landscape that played host to public events and art exhibitions.
Currently, I am focused on research and writing that will inevitably take shape in a socio-visual form.
Since launching in 2011, StoreFrontLab has steadily cultivated a community encompassing creative practitioners as well as the simply curious, of all ages. This accomplishment is owed in part to StoreFrontLab's dynamic public programming, which explores important and many-sided concepts, unpacking a constellation of thoughts, problems and images.
StoreFrontLab's curatorial style favors collaboration over imposition; artists and grantees are considered colleagues, first and foremost. While curators are open and flexible to accommodating ideas, they offer an editorial viewpoint and logistical support without distorting the artists’ own vision.
Art gives us cumulative insight into a chaotic world. Public Art is a gesture towards collective understanding. In my design and curatorial work, I want to generate ideas that challenge and inspire, forging new perspectives and cultivating social relationships that do more than simply coexist.
Through design, curating, and public engagement, I present contemporary art and ideas to a public audience. I work closely with artists, city agencies, private clients, and art venues to propose projects for funding, facilitate exhibitions, and prepare artworks for fabrication.
