In collaboration with Lindsay Kinkade of Design Territory, Eyes on the Street was a two-day event that invited the public to participate in the re-scripting of neighborhood identity through art-making.
We presented Agnes Varda's Daguerrotypes, a film that sets an unwavering lens on the shopkeepers and residents of Rue Daguerre. Through keen observations and conversations with the butcher, the baker, and the perfume maker, Varda penetrates the mundane, revealing an intimate portrait of the personalities that comprise this Left Bank neighborhood in 1970s Paris.
The following evening, during downtown's First Friday, we held a zine-making workshop, open to the public. The result was a stitching of conversations between strangers; we folded visions of a new urban identity, intermixed with personal narratives.
